QuickNews: Bridge Reopens

Route 739 Bridge over Shohola Creek Reopens

PennDOT has announced that the bridge over Shohola Creek, just north of the Lords Valley exit on I-84 in Blooming Grove Township, reopened for traffic on Friday, December 18.  This is good news for drivers who have had a long detour around repairs since August 18.

The bridge was originally scheduled to be replaced under half-width construction.  However, as a result of the deteriorating condition of the fascia beams, the bridge was completely closed and a detour established.  The $1.8 million dollar bridge replacement project was completed by HRI Construction with some cleanup left to do.  The original bridge was completed in 1950.

Holiday Road Safety Reminder

PennDOT also wishes to remind drivers to be careful on the roads during the last two weeks of December.  Because “holiday cheer” too often involves drinking alcohol at holiday parties and events, there is a spike in drunk-driving crashes each December.  During the 2013 holiday enforcement period December 18-31, 1,180 people were killed in crashes on our nation’s road and almost a third (30%) of those fatalities were in drunk-driving crashes. On Christmas day, 23 people were killed in drunk driving crashes.
